Sarawak Is Geared Towards Becoming Data-Driven State
Kuching, Sarawak, 15 May 2018 – The Center of Applied Data Science (CADS), the first and only one-stop platform and center of excellence for Data Science in the ASEAN region, which is designed to empower the next generation of Data Professionals, has been given the task to develop a data driven state by upskilling and reskilling 2,500 data professionals by 2022 through a collaboration with the Sarawak Center of Performance Excellence (SCOPE).
An Exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was held between The Honourable State Secretary of Sarawak, Chairman of SCOPE, YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani, and the Founder of CADS, Sharala Axryd. The significant event was witnessed by YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak, and will pave the way towards generating greater economic growth for Sarawak.
“We applaud the state government’s decision to focus on emerging technologies and to spearhead the Digital Economy Transformation as well as position Sarawak as a data driven state that will propel Malaysia to the forefront of the Big Data race. This move will pave the way towards developing highly skilled talents in the field of data science, which is a key component of building a Big Data and Analytics ecosystem. Towards this end, we are honoured to collaborate with SCOPE to nurture and grow the talent pool as well as participate in this transformation,” said Sharala Axryd, commenting at the event.
Riding on this MOU, CADS will work closely with SCOPE to deliver 2,500 data professionals under various programmes in due time.
CADS will be instrumental to provide consultation, project management, relevant administration services, as well as the vital support towards the initiative besides planning, delivering and implementing the project. CADS will also enable and empower corporations across the entire value chain of Data Science & Analytics and ultimately champion Data Science amongst businesses, governments, universities and individuals.
In an effort to embrace digital technologies and compete effectively in the global market, SCOPE will promote the CADS analytics solutions to Small & Medium sized Enterprises, government linked companies, private sectors and universities.
Commenting at the event, YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi, said, “This will further strengthen and support our goal of championing the human capital development especially in the field of data science and grow the digital economy as well as compete in the global economy. We believe this collaboration will be instrumental in developing a data driven culture across all the industries and further lead to the development of data driven state by 2022.”
The Exchange of MOU was conducted following the 2nd International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak, IDECS that was held on May 14 and May 15, 2018 in Kuching, Sarawak. The conference featured 13 local and international speakers, and saw the convergence of 3,000 local and global participants.
